UNDERSTANDING YOUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST

Living From Who God Says You Are, Not Who You Used to Be

CORE TRUTH

Your behavior does not define your identity; your identity determines your behavior. In Christ, your identity was established at salvation and must be renewed in your thinking to be fully expressed in your life.

KEY SCRIPTURES

2 Corinthians 5:17
Ephesians 1:3–6
Colossians 1:12–14
Romans 12:2
1 Peter 2:9

TEACHING

When a person is born again, their spirit is completely recreated. Scripture says the old has passed away and the new has come. This does not mean the believer gradually becomes new; it means they already are new in their spirit.

The problem most believers face is not a lack of sincerity or effort, it is a lack of understanding. While the spirit is instantly transformed, the mind is not. The soul must be renewed to agree with what God has already done in the spirit.

Many believers still see themselves through the lens of their past: past sin, past trauma, past labels. As a result, they live below what God has provided. Identity confusion causes believers to pray for what they already possess and fight battles that were already won.

Identity is received by faith, not proven by feelings. Faith agrees with God’s Word even when emotions and circumstances disagree. As the mind is renewed, outward transformation naturally follows.

Living from identity produces peace, confidence, and consistency. Living toward identity produces striving, frustration, and instability.

PRAYER

Father, I thank You that I am a new creation in Christ. I choose to believe what You say about me above my feelings or past experiences. Renew my mind so my life reflects the truth of who I already am. Amen.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Where am I still defining myself by my past instead of by Christ?

What thoughts consistently contradict what God says about me?

APPLICATION

Each day this week, declare one truth about who you are in Christ before responding to challenges or pressure.
